
The main characters involved in scene 1 are Mr. Frank and Miep. The scene starts off with Mr. Frank walking into his business building in Amsterdam, Holland. Miep, a twenty-two year old Dutch girl comes up after him. Miep soon finds out that Mr. Frank is leaving the business, and leaving Amsterdam as well. She tries to convince him to stay, but it doesn't seem to work. Mr. Frank actually tells Meip to burn all documents involving the business, but while doing that, Miep discovers something very important. She found Anne Frank's diary. Scene 1 ends with Anne's voice narrating her first entry of her dairy. Which was when she starts going into hiding because of the Nazi's persecution of the Jews.
Scene 2 is mainly about everyone going into hiding in an attic of a business building. Waiting inside are Mr. and Mrs. Van Daan. Their son Peter, who is sixteen and awkward is also there. The Frank family arrive with the help of a man named Mr. Kraler. He is a very dependable
Dutchman. Once everyone gets acquainted Mr. Kraler and Meip leave to go get some ration books, but they had to make sure no one's real names were on there. consider this the "white market." Anne ends up meeting Peter Van Daan, who seems to recognize her from school. Peter starts to rip off his Star of David and burn it,but Anne doesn't have the courage to. It was only until later on in the day when Anne officially knows she is in hiding. She gets pulled back by her father as she was trying to walk to the offices to get a pen for her diary. the scene ends with Anne writing in her diary one month later, mainly about how her mother is truly unbearable.
In the beginning of Scene 3, everyone is silent and waiting for all the workmen of the office to leave. Once the last person left, Anne gets excited steals Peter's shoes. He chases her around and finally gets them back. Mrs. Frank actually has a bit of an argument with Anne about her childish behavior. But her only response was that she despised being treated like an adult, she wanted to have fun. Another little fight Between her and peter begin as Peter starts teasing Anne by calling her Mrs. Quack Quack, the nickname she earned at school. Anne gets very insulted and throws Peter's clothes down the stairwell, and Peter is running down chasing after them. Around the time of dinner, Anne is gesturing and explaining to Mr. Van Daan how she wants to study music and art in Paris. While doing this, she accidentally spills a glass of mild onto Mrs. Van Daan's expensive fur coat. Mrs. Frank gets mad and start comparing Anne to her sister Margot,k who seems to be the good and respectful one. At the end of the scene, Mr. Kraler comes by with a man. His name is Mr. Dussel, and is now going to stay with everyone in hiding.
Scene 4 starts off with Anne screaming and crying because of a nightmare she is having. Her nightmare was actually about how the green police find Anne and start taking her away. Everyone there wakes up, only to go back to sleep. When Mrs. Frank tries to comfort her own daughter, she repeatedly gets a turned away face. Mrs. Frank couldn't even get a good night kiss. Worried and out of Anne's room, Margot comforts her by saying that all of this is just a phase. On how girls this age give all their love to their fathers. So that is when Mr. Frank finds himself sitting with Anne on the bed talking. Scene 4 ends with Anne once again narrating one of her dairy entries. There are more and more jets now flying over the attic. Anne thought that this could be a sign that the war is almost over, and she could have her normal life back.
